so i decided that making a top list of the covers of one of my favourite songs ever: helter skelter. there are quite some famous ones that range from different interpretations. here it goes !
# 18: autolux - i have to admit that i totally hated it. although the style is completely different that was not the problem, i just think it kills the music's essence.
# 17: the bobs - a capella version of helter skelter. although i loved the version of the simpsons theme i think this one is not able to adapt it as good.
# 16: siouxsie and the banshees - a pretty electric version but i was pretty disappointed i expected way more from this band.
# 15: dimension zero - well, it does not seem at all, but totally AT ALL like the original version but i think it is a good adaption to the style of the band, and i know my metal and heavy stuff friends would like it. although i wouldn't it's cool that the band brought something new to the song.
# 14: mari hamada - i think this version has the essence and i was impressed that this singer could top in my opinion the version of siouxsie and the banshees. i like the rock vitality on her!
# 13: pat benatar - cool adaption. i think if bonnie tyler would do it, it would try to look like this.
# 12: motley crue - i love that they kept their style and the vocals and the instrumental are true to the band but they don't loose the magic of helter skelter!
# 11: dana funchs - i think her voice is totally awesome with the beat and kind of reminds me of janis joplin in some parts.
# 10: gillan - i love how the instrumental adapted and does not seem as equal but the rythm is there. i love the originality, although it's topped higher on the list on this.
# 9: vow wow - the organ the guitars and the amazing voice. i loved this extremely rock on of the late 80's. one of my surprises in this top.
# 7: stereophonics - they just nailed it! when paul mccartney made this song he wanted a raw song and the voice on this version is so raw that it totally impressed me.
# 6: oasis - the major disappointment on this list. i though they would win it, but i was disappointed. mostly, although my love stays with noel i think this one needed liam to take over.
# 5: thrice - the instrumental is just awesome and the voice RAW RAW. especially the voice it killed me.
# 4: the killers, the vines, howling belles and louis xiv - they totally rocked and probably if this was recorded in a studio or with better quality they would totally nailed the top three. this is the helter skelter spirit.
# 3: bon jovi - for me this was the major surprise of this top. rock rock rock.
# 2: u2 - probably the most well know and well deserved this one rocks out the whole top but it misses one thing that the first one has...
# 1: AEROSMITH! they all miss the energy of steven tyler mostly. just amazing... and their cover of come together it is also surprising.
you might be a lover but you ain't no dancer!
and i should totally add that i was really sad that none of them screamed on the end by ringo:
I GOT BLISTERS ON MY FINGERS!
