our america with lisa ling

this is a tv show that looks into important subjects of society which are very talked about issues due to its controversial connotation. the first episode revolves around "faith healers", people that sell faith and a promise of healing and hold people's hope in their hands. in the beginning, as skeptical as i am, i just thought "finally, even people that believe in god are being urgent in talking about this.". but it actually showed me a side that although i have always be tolerant about it i did not really understand how people in dispair could relate to faith healers when so much harm had already been done to them. but i think lisa's sentence explained it all:

"maybe faith is its own reward."

maybe the hope that faith provides is its own strength, it is the solution people needed from it and not miracles. as bill maher said in his documentary "religulous" some people do not have the luxury of not having faith. in some cases it is the only thing they have. and watching todd's example it really made me believe how lucky i am that i can afford not to need it.
